Harry Wu and LRF Staff Give Museum Tour to Over 100 Students

China Labor Camps Under Fire From State Think Tank

The Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, an influential state think tank, recently published a report deploring the laojiao labor camp system. In criticizing the continued use of laojiao labor camps, CASS joins an increasingly vocal group of central government agencies and officials that have decried the system, which suggests that the central government might soon implement laojiao labor camp reforms. 

China Pollution Report: Only Four Cities Make Cut

According to a report conducted by China's environment ministry on air pollution, only 4 of 74 cities surveyed have acceptable levels of air pollution. The Chinese government defines the threshold for acceptable air pollution as 35 micrograms of PM2.5 per cubic meter, 10 micrograms higher than the standard set by the World Health Organization. Lhasa, Haikou, Zhoushan, and Huizhou were the only cities to meet the government's standard.
