Authorities Arrest Chen Guangcheng's Sister-in-Law

Authorities detained Chen Guangcheng’s sister-in-law, Ren Zongju, on charges of harboring her son, Chen Kegui, after he was charged with beating a police officer who allegedly attacked the family. Ren’s arrest is the latest in an ongoing campaign to harass Chen Guangcheng’s family.

Chen Guangcheng is a blind lawyer who worked tirelessly to expose local corruption and the illegal activities of family planning officials. He escaped from house arrest last year and currently resides in New York City.

Former political prisoner Harry Wu to discuss U.S.-China relations

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Jan. 10, 2013) — Human rights activist Harry Wu, who spent nearly two decades as a Chinese political prisoner, will speak at the University of Louisville on Jan. 23 about U.S.-China relations.

Wu’s talk, “In the Mouth of the Dragon: U.S. and China Relations in the 21st Century,” will be the UofL Center for Asian Democracy’s annual lecture on Asian democracy.
