Organizational Background

Laogai Research Foundation was founded in 1992 by renowned former political prisoner Harry Wu. Its mission is to document and expose human rights abuses related to China's Laogai system of forced labor camps. For more info, visit

Job descriptions:

 

  • Front desk services for visitors;

  • Lead tours around the museum;

  • Give oral introductions in English or Chinese about items displayed;

  • Give answers to questions about the museum or other related topics;

  • Collect and analyze data of visitors ;

  • Build visitor relationship, including conducting outreach programs to local schools or other organizations;

  • Museum promotion

 

Hiring Requirements:

  • Candidates must have native level fluency in English; advanced or native level Mandarin proficiency (oral and written) is required;

  • Minimum (5) two years of docent working experience and/or customer service experience;

  • Excellent Communication and relationship building skills;

  • Excellent story-telling skills;

  • Positive attitude and strong work ethic is a must;

  • Knowledge of communist China and interests in human rights issues a plus;

  • Ability to work flexible and/or extended hours based upon business needs;

  • Detail oriented with strong organizational skills;

  • Advanced Microsoft Office Suite competence;

 

Minimum Education Required:

Bachelor degree or higher
